The Royal Opera, an acoustic jewel
Inaugurated in 1770 for the dauphin’s wedding, the Royal Opera of the palace is one of the finest wooden theatres in the world, with acoustics acclaimed for baroque music. You hear Rameau there as well as Mozart, in a blue-and-gold casket. Treating yourselves to an evening at the Royal Opera turns a date into an unforgettable memory long before the first words after the show.
Mois Molière and Equestrian Academy
Every June, the Mois Molière festival takes over courtyards, chapels and gardens with around a hundred free or almost free shows: theatre, concerts and readings. All year round, the Equestrian Academy, based in the Great Stables, offers the Voie de l’écuyer, a horseback ballet mixing fencing and music. Two outings that promise much to share.
Montansier Theatre and Versailles nights
The Montansier Theatre, a charming Italian-style house in the centre, programmes classical plays, comedy and family shows. Nearby, Rue des Deux-Portes and Rue Royale gather wine bars and small restaurants to extend the evening. On Lyad, members from Versailles share their favourite nights out; it is up to you to find someone to applaud and talk the show over with.
